FUNNY TURNS

Susie was tried and found guilty of glassing a publican. She claimed “I was raped by the bastard who made up a story I was wasted, tried to steal money then glass him. I’m only here ‘cause he paid off the cops.” After suffering severe depression and psychosis she was moved from Long Bay to Callan Park Mental Hospital. Her children, two boys, were taken into care and her husband took off to Queensland to work on a banana plantation. She never saw her boys again.

Susie Porter, 2 January 1920, Darlinghurst Police Station.
