Director's Chair

Luke Stambouliah was born in Sydney in 1989. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) from the University of New South Wales, College of Fine Arts, Sydney, in 2011. Stambouliah is a winner of the international All About Photo portrait award (2022) and a two-time finalist in Australia’s premier photography portrait award, Head On Photo Festival (2017, 2024). In 2021, his first major public collection, “Creators of Hope” was acquired by Taronga Conservation Society Australia, Sydney.

As one of Australia's leading portrait photographers, Stambouliah’s work has been successfully presented in international curated exhibitions at AAP, New York (2022), in the USA, and Contré, France (2022), in addition to national curated exhibitions at the Museum of Sydney (2017, 2018), Sydney Town Hall (2017) and Carriageworks, Sydney (2010). Other recent, important solo presentations include: “Legacy: A Story of Women”, International Convention Centre Sydney (2023, 2025); “Betwixt (The Black Show)”, Roslyn Packer Theatre, Sydney (2012); and “Persons of Interest”, Galleryeight, Sydney (2010, 2011).

Stambouliah is known for his cinematic storytelling through the calm of a still image. He is a professional member of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts, and is represented by Head Press International Photo Agency. He continues to live and work in Sydney, Gadigal land, Australia.
